RAW estate to launch Hilaritas Press

Robert Anton Wilson’s estate is dumping New Falcon as the publisher of most of RAW’s books, and instead is launching its own publishing imprint, Hilaritas Press.

Here is the official word from Richard Rasa, projects coordinator for the Robert Anton Wilson estate. (I wrote to Mr. Rasa earlier this week, after I noticed that all of RAW’s books have vanished  from the New Falcon website).

In terms of RAW Trust matters, this is good news. We didn’t want to announce anything before we were more prepared, but I think an explanation is due. Bob and now Christina have fought with New Falcon over many issues over the years. Bob often spoke about how he would have loved to have had another publishing opportunity. He especially wanted the profits from his writing to help his children, and I heard him complain more than once about how New Falcon offered no such possibility. This became even more true with the changes in New Falcon since Alan Miller “left” the publishing house to his son Michael. Google “Michael Miller arrest”, if you haven’t already.

We’ve been preparing for months and are close to being ready to launch The RAW Trust’s new publishing house, Hilaritas Press. We will be republishing all of New Falcon’s RAW books. We’re meticulously editing the books for typos and other mistakes, and then reformatting for eBook and Print publications. It’s a huge job, and so we are planning on releasing the books as each is done. At the moment we are nearing completion of Cosmic Trigger I, Prometheus Rising, and Quantum Psychology. We’re still working on a few new prefaces, and new covers. Still no clear launch date, as we keep tweaking, but we’ll let you know.

Check out the temporary landing page for Hilaritas Press: http://www.hilaritaspress.com

Only a few people know about this change, and we’ve been keeping it quiet while issues were being settled, but most of the legal issues have been resolved, and so there’s no reason that rumors can’t start.

Amor illuminatio hilaritas et pasta volans!

A couple of notes: I wrote about Michael Miller’s arrest last November; I could not find an update when I ran a couple of quick searches. New Falcon has been RAW’s publisher for just about everything except Illuminatus! and Schroedinger’s Cat. There was a schism that I don’t know much about after Christopher Hyatt died, resulting in a split and two book publishing companies, New Falcon and Original Falcon.

Reminder for new Maybe Logic course on RAW

    Bogus Magus, aka Toby Philpott

The new Maybe Logic Academy course on Robert Anton Wilson is just around the corner — Sept. 23 — and features Bogus Magus (aka Toby Philpott), Bobby Campbell, Propaganda Anonymous and Steve “Fly Agaric” Pratt, a kind of Anglo-American all star team.  The official announcement and more details are here; you pay whatever you can afford.

Pratt organized the course and recently emailed me about how it came about.

“When i got news of the ‘Find The Others’ festival, scheduled for the day after the Cosmic Trigger stage play in Liverpool, (23rd November) i saw a doorway of opportunity to reignite the MLA community, and ride shotgun with the rising tide of RAW activities. The MLA MGT also shared the vision, so it goes.

“Bogus, Bobby and Prop were in typical kindhearted agreement to create something new, and each shaped up a two week prescription to trigger cosmic integrity in the minds of the people. I would also like to thank the MLA webmaster, for engineering the back-end of the class and bringing valuable feedback. Bobby provided all visuals without missing a beat, in the tradition of the community spirited artist movement of the 1960s.

  • Ernest Fenollosa 2014 and TTOTT

“Ezra Pound was no starnger to Oriental art when he met Mary McNeil Fenollosa, the widow of the American Orientalist Ernest Fenollosa (1853-1908), in London in late September 1913.”–Zhaoming Qian, Orientalism and Modernism (1994)  pg. 9.

    Fenollosa 2014 and TTOTT

    by Steve Fly

“Fenollosa [1853-1908], wrote an essay on
The Chinese WrittenCharacter as a Medium for Poetry” which vastly influenced
    Ezra Pound and, through Pound, modern poetry generally;
said essay also anticipates some formulations of General Semantics
and NeuroLinguistic Programming [NLP], and foreshadows
modern critiques of “linear” and “alphabetical” thinking. –Robert Anton Wilson, Recorsi 2005.

Ernest Fenollosa (1853-1908) found a place in the chain of human innovation, and the lineage of modernism as defined by Dr Robert Anton Wilson in his unfinished project called ‘the tale of the tribe’. Please read some of my others posts trying to get at TTOTT and what it all means to me.

  • The Late Great Robert Anton Wilson Event Part 1 – John Higgs

One day before heading down to London on the bus from Dudley, to see the show at the Horse Hospital i had the following experience:

yesterday, in Stourbridge i had an encounter with an Angel, or what Arthur Koestler calls…’the library angel’ category of coincidence, or in my case the charity shop Angel. Let me explain, i walked into the British heart foundation shop and started scanning the books, and within just 2 minutes i found ‘The Wild Boys’ by William S. Burroughs for a bargain price of £1.50, and on the shelf below a copy of ‘The Trial’ by Franz Kafka for just 50p. A few hours later i opened up ‘Wild Boys’ and on the acknowledgment page i became spooked to discover that the only text mentioned, for permission to quote from is non other than ‘The Trial’ by Franz Kafka. A splendid intersection point and angelic contact coincidance.

Politicians, Peptides, and Stupidity: An Evening with Robert Anton Wilson

“Dr. Robert Anton Wilson was the author (along with Robert Shea) of the popular Illuminatus! trilogy, which won the Prometheus Hall of Fame award for science fiction in 1986. His other books have found great acclaim as well, many of them achieving “cult classic” status. Wilson has been described at various times throughout his life as a novelist, philosopher, psychologist, essayist, editor, playwright, poet, futurist, civil libertarian and agnostic mystic.

In this video from the Libertarian Party’s Presidential Nominating Convention in 1987, Wilson treats the audience to a humorous and irreverent talk about everything from the state of world politics to a discussion on metaphysics, chemistry, and the nature of reality.–http://www.libertarianism.org/media/video-collection/politicians-peptides-stupidity-evening-robert-anton-wilson

  • Ezra Pound and the tale of the tribe in 2013.

Ezra Pound and the tale of the tribe in 2013.

Today, Easter Sunday 31st March 2013, I am here at home in Amsterdam, switching between facebook, blogger, youtube and Wikipedia, and my copy of Pound’s Cantos. And I cannot resist pulling out some examples of Pounds relevance, coloured by the texts analysis by Pound/Joyce scholar Dr Robert Anton Wilson.

First off there is the poetry, the straight up imagist prose that is juxtaposing natures forms with man’s sensory experiences, bashing the mind with species and etymology through metaphor. Just on the surface, when revisiting Canto’s CXVII & CXVIII without pretending to be able to decode the strange new scripts intermingling on the page, there is an aesthetic appeal, an instant wonder and sense of the unique, nothing else in literature exits anything like this, to this day. And so I imagine the wonders and messages hidden away, what I don’t know is always in my face, highlighting what I can read and make inferences about, like little villages of recognizable action and meaning surrounded by a huge forest of mystery and unknown symbol systems.

Due my acknowledgement of what I don’t know about the Cantos, it proves difficult to state a case about the text, and about what Pound means by any particular fragment or ideogram. However, there is a long line of scholarship and decoding of the texts, along with extensive biographical commentary on Ezra Pound to help the lone rambler stumbling into the forest. Like Joyce’s equally dense work Finnegans Wake, Pounds Cantos…works its hidden magic most effectively with an accompaniment of skeleton keys, supportive texts and internet search engines, or if you are fortunate a good teacher.

Robert Anton Wilson regarded Ezra Pound very highly, although like many other Pound scholars made clear that he did not ascribe to Ezra’s opinions during the 30’s and 40’s which took on a fascist and racist tendency. RAW does not throw the baby out with the bathwater and almost begs us to reconsider Pound and all his contributions and his extensive wonderful works that aim to better humanity, our individual critical minds and refine a globalist taste for common horse-sense in general. RAW’s love and deep understanding of the Cantos is expressed in a series of Cantos commentaries published at rawfans.org, and which inspired this writing today. I recommend them highly, and especially with the Cantos in hand, reading in between the lines and discovering the labyrinth of rich languages running together with the English bits.
