  • 20 Years Ago Today With Bob

    20 years ago today I was with Bob in Palm Springs, the following is from Dangerous Minds…about the event.

    The RAW fans contingent in Palm Springs were totally distinct from everyone else present (goths and cyberpunk vs New Agey senior citizens who wanted to hear about Pleiadian prophecy and 2012 Mayan stuff, which Bob just hated). Bob got really ripped on hard alcohol before his talk and swore like a sailor, which seemed to deeply offend the organizers of the event. We ended up hanging out in his hotel suite, smoking pot. A young guy had given him a bag of these black psilocybin mushrooms which he’d managed to smuggle into America from Ireland, which Bob didn’t really seem to want and gave to me (my god were they strong). It was in Palm Springs that I got to see firsthand how bad his post-polio syndrome had gotten. He was getting pretty wobbly on his feet, but this did not seem to dampen his enthusiasm in the least for copious amounts of Marlboro reds, whiskey and weed.

    Mentally he was certainly as sharp as ever, that never changed, but his health seemed to go downhill quite fast in the years I knew him. The aforementioned “enthusiasms” were often consumed with rapacious gusto for a man of his age and he once revealed to me that since nearly everyone who he had ever loved in his life was already dead, he was going to smoke as many cigarettes and pound back as much Scotch as he damn well pleased. Bob’s your uncle!

  • The Fat Emperor Wears No Mask


    Emperor – the sovereign or supreme male monarch of an empire. Tsar, Czar, Kaiser, Fuhrer. a.k.a: Unscientific delusion of divine authority.

    Chief Covid skeptic, Ivor “Fat Czar” Cummins replied to me on twitter with: “go back to your drums, unscientific steve,” which is funny and helped me to better clarify my position and criticism.

    I, Steve Fly, a.k.a Unscientific Steve, do not make claims of the real absolute truth, or to know about the only real reality. I do not…claim empirical truth in my work and I don’t claim supreme sovereign power, I’m no Bloated Kaiser and hope to distinguish myself–right here–from that gang, or those in support of his cult of personality. After playing some killer’ chops in ⅞ time and my usual warm up paradiddles, ruffs, diddles, doubles, singles, triples and konnakol rhythmic exercises I powered-up my senses, and I now sense well marketed faith-based ideology, cloaked in the language of critical thinking, ala’ some threads of Qanonsense: do your own research, followed by….”meanwhile, I have the only truth, Ive’ all the keys to reality, follow me, subscribe! Check my book if you wanna’ live.” 

    To my tobacco stained taste buds, Ivor Cummins and his devout devotees and followers are tripped up by the promotional and marketing campaigns that surf on trumpeting claims to practice science, yet communicate in a language of faith-based, superstition, leaning toward medieval dull platitudes. Cummins repeatedly claims the “Real Truth, Real Data and Real Reality.” Why is he shouting so much, his background in corporate marketing coming through? Scientists with integrity don’t have to shout like the Fat Emperor, or shouldn’t have too either. They progress through corroborated evidence, e.g: masks work, social distancing and lockdowns work and vaccines work. This reflects the status quo according to the science. Masks, lockdowns and vaccines are true in a practical sense because they work, demonstrably, it’s foundational physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. The big T Truth Cummins claims is weak, his Emperor status is untestable, alike the majority of dogmatic conclusions garnered from selected works, that in themselves hold merit. A popular corporate marketing technique used by populists in 2020.

    I’m with Karl Popper on this, “Hypotheses cannot be proven to be true, they can only be falsified.” And here’s Ivor, claiming big T Truth and big R Reality, with worrying wafts of the great awakening and reset tumbling up my sensitive nostrils. Ivor(y) Tower Ivor, claims to know all about the thousands of experiments and papers and studies to conveniently fit his consistent general premise: masks don’t work, anti-lockdown doesn’t make a difference, and vaccines are not to be trusted. He’s cherry picking his guests like how an Emperor packs his court, to support his public puzzlement, putting the juicy pieces together on his podcast, spouting unfounded conclusions.

    My advice is, if he wants his followers and critics and the scientific worldwide community to take him seriously, then he should drop the messiah complex and consistent dogmatic faith-based claims of supreme sovereignty. If Ivor were a satirist I’d give the Fat Emperor brand a thumbs up, pretty funny joke, but he’s not, he claims empirical absolute truth and sells his brand, based on a logical fallacy, to his devout followers. He’s right about fats and sugar though. Oh, I get it, Fat Emperor, to mean he’s the sovereign supreme white male monarch of Fatburgs?

    Track trace and isolate every single mink mutation immediately
    Why have you not closed the farms and culled the Mink?
    Based on what is happening in Denmark
    What happened in May in Holland!
    Why are ANY mink farms open? How, why?
    Who’s responsible
    Who’s irresponsible?
    Ms. Schouten can you hear me?

    Why are so many awful Mink farms here
    In the first place?
    Why does Holland lead Mink trade
    To supply demand for China?
    How do you allow it in the first place
    Before the Mink-Human Covid
    Chimera outbreak?

    I’m outraged at the Dutch government and
    Health authority and Farm Ministry for a lack of
    Responsibility toward this. Protect the people?

    Do you understand the danger here?
    Besides the cruel trade in itself
    You could be helping Covid19 mutate and
    Spread, a mutation that may not be
    Suppressed by the vaccine
    Herd immunity is out the window again.

    Your unwillingness to act until Spring 2021

    Self inflated exceptionalism endangers all.

    Note, Mink are traded LEGALLY in Holland
    For their pelts, you monsters condone this?
    What kind of slave-trade mentality?

The team used genome sequencing to trace the spread of the virus between mink, cats and humans and found that 66 people and 11 cats all had a ‘mink variety’ of the virus.”

Where whole genomes were available, these persons were infected with strains with an animal sequence signature, providing evidence of animal to human transmission of SARS-CoV-2 within mink farms.

    Stellar mergers as the origin of magnetic massive stars

     Strong magnetic fields are produced in the simulations, and the merged star rejuvenates such that it appears younger and bluer than other coeval stars. This can explain the properties of the magnetic ‘blue straggler’ star τSco in the Upper Scorpius association that has an observationally inferred, apparent age of less than five million years, which is less than half the age of its birth association10. Such massive blue straggler stars seem likely to be progenitors of magnetars, perhaps giving rise to some of the enigmatic fast radio bursts observed11, and their supernovae may be affected by their strong magnetic fields12.

  • Thoughts On Race Identity Politics Conspiracy

    Identity?

    Our pen names, pet names, imaginary friends and guardian entities are not just simply fiction. (a lot depends on who you’re talking to). Yes, we are our names and social security numbers, our birth certificate and our identity cards, but we are so much more than that. Inner self-identity can be deceiving. In a digital landscape of splintered digital identities, consider becoming/seeking the author of your authentic identity by doing language, before it does you. Work with your dog-given infinite-flux of beingness to track and trace distinguishing features, differences…between biological, written and imagined identities, seeking group narrative story as a means to investigate inner/outer unity of beingness. Find coherence in feedback from the tribes.  

    Race?

    Our ancestor worship and cultural genetic complex of origins is not fiction, it’s in religion for some people, it’s within biological genetic family tree diagrams for others, but it’s so much more too. Outward appearances can be deceiving. Use your innate human abilities to distinguish contour, tone, pattern and features for celebrating similarities and showing empathy where injustice and tragedy is endured by any tribe. A rainbow of inclusive narrative stories. India, Asia, Africa, Indonesia, America’s and Europe are all in the story. Seek out new narrative stories in groups to celebrate the never ending story of races, demonstrate once and at the same time: honoring of ancestors, by sharing, comparing with your tribes and the others. The tale of the tribe is a tale/story including all the other tribes, by default a rainbow coalition of earth peoples. We’re all in it together trying to make it (the story) cohere. Actung! never underestimate the stupidity of people in large groups. 

    Politics?

    Progressive dreams of a world without war, where all are housed, fed, clothered and loved is not fiction. Yes, we are the X on the ballot paper but we are much more than that, we are more than the policies and the words of those we vote for. We’re not their logo or their brand. Party politics can be deceiving, two party politics is divisive. Perhaps, work toward joining affiliation groups that better reflect your place in nature, in society. Question the relationship between the individual and the state, use critical thinking to unite opposing forces through group feedback/synthesis. Seek a new group narrative story, consider each major culture and their founding story, consider founding one that includes all around the earth humanity, celebrating individual liberty self-owning ones.

    Conspiracy?

    The trust must begin somewhere, if eveything is a conspiracy then nothing is a conspiracy, check those equivalences again and again, avoid the slow slip into the slop of solipsism. Who benefits? who can break their spell and how? Conspiracies are by definition deceiving. Use a hierarchy of values approach, with a probabilistic language to explore shades of conspiracy, toward a conspiracyometer that ranges from highly probable (revelations from the Panama papers) to total batshit (flat earth, satanic invasion, one almighty creator), that’s to share my conspiracyometer. Seek group narrative stories that are informed by all above questions: individual vs. the state, inner/outer self identity, biology vs. never ending story of races. Flip the script to produce benevolent altruistic conspiracies, secret plans to bring health, wealth, love, comfort and good cheer to all around the world humanity, by tomorrow night! 

    These are my suspicions, I’d be interested to know your thoughts on these critical issues facing all-around-the-world-humanity.
