Amsterdam, 2012. DJ-poet Plush, reeling from attacks that shattered his career, forms TRB with Max and Percy. Inspired by Robert Anton Wilson, they fuse turntablism, magick, and literature into the chaotic TribeTable Method, accidentally plugging into Wilson’s unfinished “Tale of the Tribe” and a brewing historical conspiracy centered on the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
As they juggle invoked entities (“The Sixty”), time-traveling tardigrades, and messages channeled through experimental beats, they attract the attention of a ruthless cabal manipulating reality through AI, populism, and bizarre rituals involving peanut butter. From Amsterdam coffeeshops and secret bases beneath the Malvern Hills to the decks of a reality-bending DJ battle, TRB must decode the “Hologrammic Prose” of the universe, hijack the narrative, and fight the “Prick Populist” threat before the singularity hits endgame.Deep Scratch is Vanta Black science fiction comedy.
It’s Burroughs cut-ups slammed into Pynchon paranoia, fueled by hip-hop aesthetics and occult theory. Expect prophetic visions, weaponized memes, sentient technology, talking books, exploding jellyfish, and the desperate search for the perfect beat in a deep fake universe. The tables are turning. It’s probably only me, but, I swear, ever since I got into music, playing drums and mixing records, I had (in my head) an array of fantasy albums, collaborations and DJ mixes. Back then in the mid 1990s, every DJ set was the chance to blend and create new forms, new worlds, soundtracks, dusty funk and jazz groovers, instrumental hip hop, spacious dub, all the music you can lay your mittens on. All records for tuning into this inner fantasy studio world. To me, today, this “Udio” tool has opened up many previously locked or abandoned rooms, or music projects.
I’ve been writing lyrics and making beats / music for over 3 decades now. Amassing a tidy pile of sonic detritus and textual adventures. Deep Scratch is my take on the impact of technology on the artform. Many new projects are flying off and out from this Deep Scratch Universe. This album (Folkin’ Around Elections) is a new direction, as you will hear, it does not resemble all my previous DS releases here.
All words and lyrics are mine, my approach was to formulate the music that for me, best fits the words, the job of any song writer. Westmonster Brexsh*t, was crafted in 2017 and published as a book “Passport To Brexit” that same year. “What Is Tactical” and “Buy Tory”, the lyrics, were crafted 2 hours ago here in Amsterdam. These songs are sweet and sour, bittersweet, some parody. Mock and roll? Is this even music anymore. These digital data dust formations in the sonic realms, reflect audio memories, reflections and dreams from the Black Country area of the West Midlands. Now spat out through the ear world of a generative a.i. somewhat under my control, or am I under the control of it?
There’s echoes and laments on rivers, brexit, austerity, division, culture wars, and some jolly stuff too, distilled into songs, with melody to stimulate thinking, both on the context and lyrical content.
I hope you find something you like in this alternative upside-down-folk album.

Since early March 2020 this poet donned a new overcoat belonging to Squintin Quarantino, and begun to fashion a lock-down diary. To be clear, I do not ascribe to the Wuhan lab leak theory, I do not ascribe to the vaccination conspiracy to kill off the human race, I do not ascribe to the 5G conspiracy, and I do not think that Covid is a hoax, that said, I do think that pre-pandemic trajectories of greed have escalated due to the rise of populist self-interest assisted by data robbers and media manipulators, fanning the flames of this god aweful virus.released July 26, 2021
